Alice's Restaurant

Alice’s Restaurant was located in Stockbridge Massachusetts, about six miles from the church. Alice Brock and her husband Ray Brock opened the restaurant. The original restaurant was open for one year. I think that the inside of her restaurant had a lot of her paintings and designs on the walls.

Arlo Guthrie wrote the song because of the events that took place during Thanksgiving of 1965 and because of the Vietnam War. The song Alice’s Restaurant slowly developed two years after Thanksgiving of 1965. I think that “you can get anything you want” means that you can get anything from food to art work.

Alice was a surrogate parent for young men and women who camped out. Alice and her husband worked at a private school together somewhere near Stockbridge. She was a painter and designer. Guthrie named the song after Alice’s Restaurant because the song is about what happened on Thanksgiving, which ties into why he can’t go to the Vietnam War. Since 2005 Alice lives in Provincetown Massachusetts and owns her own art studio. In 2003 she illustrated a children’s book that Guthrie wrote.

Very nice job Crystal. I appreciate you putting your sources with your post. I think your description of the restaurant might be accurate. It would make sense , since Alice is a painter , that she would display them in her restaurant.
