Alice's Restaurant and Song

Alice’s Restaurant was in Stockbridge, MA. Alice Brock, Arlo (Woodie) Guthrie and Ray Brock are the people who opened it. Alice’s Restaurant was opened for one year. It is a big white two story building.
Arlo (Woodie) Guthrie wrote the song because of the events that took place during Thanksgiving 1965 and the Vietnam War. I think when he says “you can get anything you want” means you can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant.

I may know?

This is a story of Alice's Restaurant. Alice's Restaurant is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Alice opened the restaurant in the 1960's. The original Alice's Restaurant was open for a year until Alice and her husband Ray got a divorce. Then the restaurant closed. Alice's Restaurant was a very old building with four walls, a roof, some tables and old chairs with concrete floors. The name of Alice M. Brock restaurant was the Back Room Restaurant.

Arlo Guthrie wrote Alice's Restaurant and him and his friend were hauled into jail for illegally dumping some of Alice's garbage after discovering that the dump was closed for the holiday. The tone of the song was hyperbolic. It was hyperbolic because of how the song went and how long it was about Alice's Restaurant. "You can get anything you want" means a lot of people that get together all the time and get anything they want. Like they own the place.

Alice M. Brock is a painter and designer. Arlo Guthrie named the song after her restaurant because Alice owned the restaurant in Massachusetts and Arlo Guthrie went there all the time. That's why he named Alice's Restaurant. Alice M. Brock is living in Provincetown, Massachusetts right now and owns a art studio and gallery.

Arlo Guthrie was born in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. He grew up by dancers and songwriters in 1947. He writes songs. Alice's Restaurant was a big hit in 1962.
Alice Brock and her former husband Ray Brock opened a restaurant in Stockbridge Massachusetts. It was only open for a year due to their divorce. I can’t describe much of its physical appearance but I imagine it to be very family oriented. He wrote the song based his experiences in his life and what had happened to him on Thanksgiving Day 1965. The tone of this song is sarcastic but true. He had a sense of humor. “You can get anything you want” I think that it means that if your feeling down or lonely or just need someone to talk to that you can always count on it to be at Alice’s restaurant. Alice was a painter and designer, she also worked at a private school. He named the song after her restaurant because it had to do a lot with her. Alice is currently living in Provincetown Massachusetts. She owns her own art studio and gallery, and she illustrated Guthrie’s children book, Moses Come Walking. Guthrie was raised around the music industry and his father was a musician he sang Folk music. He got into some trouble along the way but who doesn't? He is still an actor and singer.

Alice's Restaurant

Alice’s Restaurant was located in Stockbridge Massachusetts, about six miles from the church. Alice Brock and her husband Ray Brock opened the restaurant. The original restaurant was open for one year. I think that the inside of her restaurant had a lot of her paintings and designs on the walls.

Arlo Guthrie wrote the song because of the events that took place during Thanksgiving of 1965 and because of the Vietnam War. The song Alice’s Restaurant slowly developed two years after Thanksgiving of 1965. I think that “you can get anything you want” means that you can get anything from food to art work.

Alice was a surrogate parent for young men and women who camped out. Alice and her husband worked at a private school together somewhere near Stockbridge. She was a painter and designer. Guthrie named the song after Alice’s Restaurant because the song is about what happened on Thanksgiving, which ties into why he can’t go to the Vietnam War. Since 2005 Alice lives in Provincetown Massachusetts and owns her own art studio. In 2003 she illustrated a children’s book that Guthrie wrote.

The Song Alices Restaurant

Alice’s Restaurant was in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, it was opened by Alice M Brock in the 1960’s. The original Alice’s Restaurant was open for one year before her and her husband, Ray Brock, divorced. Since the restaurant was in an alley way I think that the restaurant looked kind of dirty, but yet nice!
I think that Arlo Guthrie wrote the song because him and his friend owed Alice something for getting her in trouble with the trash dumping, and for having to put up with him. This song sounds both hyperbolic and sarcastic. When he is saying that “ You can get whatever you want” he means that you can get whatever you want.

Alice was an artist at a private art school in Stockbridge. I think that Guthrie named the song after her restaurant because the song is about him and his friend dumping Alice’s trash and about her restaurant. These days Alice is living in Provincetown, Massachusetts and owns her own studio and gallery, and she illustrated Guthrie’s children book, Moses Come Walking.

alice info

Alice's Restaurant was located down an alley behind a grocery store at 40 Main Street in Stockbridge, Massachusetts was roughly six miles from the church it was opened by, Alice M. Brock and was only open for one year. It is a Long building with a painting on the front and side wall and on the inside they try to make it look like a family kitchen and home.
Arlo Guthrie wrote the song to protest the draft. It was a sad rebellious song that got the point that he don’t want to go. Cause there talking about the draft and other sad things and how to rebel against the army as for what it means when he says"You can get anything you want"? That at the restaurant you can get him and his family were he fells loved
Guthrie named the song after her restaurant, Cause he dumped trash there and after he cleaned he fell in love with the place. Alice these days is lives in Provincetown, Massachusetts and owns an art studio and gallery at 69 Commercial Street. She illustrated the 2004 children's book Mooses Come Walking, written by Guthrie.
Guthrie's was the son of folk singers both his mother and father were singers so he had plenty of music life. Today he is still singing and acting in movies.

You can get anything you want

Alice’s restaurant started at Massachusetts, in the small town called Great Barrington. Ray Brock bought a church in Great Barrington, and made it Alice's Restaurant aka (Back Room Rest). Alice’s restaurant was open for four years. The restaurant had church windows, with ten or so tables with forty chairs. The out side has a big cross in the front with a giant sign that said, "Alice’s Restaurant."

Arlo Guthrie wrote the song, because he and his friend got nailed for dumping trash in to the town dump illegally. He got arrested and went to court. Arlo wrote the song on his own experiences. The song was more to making you happy, as to waste time. The song was like "You can get anything you want", but it was more along the lines as every hippie loving person came to have fun and get away from life itself.

Alice is living in Provincetown, Massachusetts were she runs a art studio and gallery. Arlo Guthrie named the hit song after Alice's Restaurant because they was best friends. They seen each other every day at the restaurant. I think Arlo used to work their as a cook.

Arlo Guthrie probably had a hard life growing up as a kid. Most likely a poor family and didn't have the best class or town to live in. Alice's Restaurant. Arlo is raised funds to buy the church to make a "nonprofit interfaith organization, which brings together individuals for spiritual activities as well as cultural and educational exchanges. "

The Song
Arlo Guthrie wrote the song because Guthrie and his friend got hauled off to jail for illegally dumping some of Alice’s garbage at the city dump after discovering that the city dump was closed for the holiday’s. Alice's Restraunt

Alice’s restraint

Alice’s restaurant was located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts behind a grocery store. The restaurant was opened by Alice m Brock; the restraunt was opened for one full year. The saying “you can get anything you want “means you can get anything you want if you try hard enough.
Arlo Guthrie wrote this song as an anti-draft song against the Vietnam War. The tone of the song in my opinion is sad because of the way the song is written.
Alice was a young painter and designer. Arlo Guthrie named his song after Alice’s restaurant because it was the source of everything that happened in 1965. Nowadays Alice Brock owns her own art studio in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She is now painting and doing a lot of art work.

everybody loves alice

Alices Restaurant was opened by Alice and Ray Broch for about a year or so in Barrington Massachusets. This affected the artists life becouse alice brock ran the church that was considered a haven to the local youth.

Arlo Guthrrie in my opinion wrote the song as a testiment to his personal protest against a currupt and inoperative system of goverment and social workings. Furthurmore i find it apparent near the end of the song that Arlo hoped to awaken these problematic issues inside people and to gather a movement. The tone of the song seemed to give away a certain element of his Psyche with a hint of humorous sarcasm twords his struggles. The refrain "you can get anything you want" seemed to imply (in my opinion a certain realm of drug use) and a metaphore as to the fact that Alice Brock provided for him much of the wisdom insight and enlightenment he wished to gain, and that with such a mentor others could easily do the same.

And this is how i explain the admins (jiffypops) naming of this blog. Alices resturant is meant to be a source of enlightnment and insight for youth. and hopefully a place where we can creativly grow beyond our previus borders.

Alice’s Restaurant

Alice’s Restaurant was located down an alley behind the grocery store in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Alice’s Restaurant was opened by Alice M. Brock. The restaurant was open for one full year. When Arlo Guthrie says that “ you can get anything you want”, he means that whenever you want something you can always get it no matter what if you try.

The Song

Arlo Guthrie wrote this song for the reason of being an ironical and vague protest against the Vietnam War draft, and the widespread anti-hippie prejudice, while also telling of a true personal experience. The tone of Arlo’s song appeared to be sad in my opinion just in the approach he took in singing/reading it.

Alice

Alice was simply a young painter and designer. Arlo Guthrie named his song after Alice’s restaurant because it was the basis of everything that happened in 1965. Today Alice Brock owns her own art studio in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She is currently painting everything from canvas to beach stones and even has a couple posters and books.

Arlo Guthrie

Arlo Guthrie grew up solely around music and dancing. Growing up he made many of the famous clubs where famous singers/songwriters and political-social commentators performed at home. Later on in his singing/songwriting career broke out in 1967 with the release of the Woodstock Festival favorite, “Alice’s Restaurant.” As of 1998 Arlo has performed over 40 concerts with 27 different symphony orchestras. Still today he is performing concerts, writing songs and changing peoples lives with his words and music.

Alice's restaurant was in Great Barrington, MA a woman named Alice M. Brock opened it. IT remained open for about one year. i am not for sure what it looked like but i think the building was big and white. The reason he wrote the song is he has a passion for song and writing and he wrote it in protest. The song is being sarcastic but is a rather smoothe song. This guy was a kind person that is why his song is smoothe. When they say that you can get any thing he means you can get what you want if you work for it. Alice was the woman that opened the restaurant. Theses days Alice is working in her garden. Guthrie was a freind of Alice and Ray for a long time. Guthrie was saving up for five years so he could by the restaurant. He know runs Guthrie Center and Guthrie Foundation.

I got all of my information from the site called the entire story.

Alices Restuarant

Alices restuarant is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Alice M. Brock opened Alices Restuarant. The original Alices restuarant was opened for a year. i don't know what the physical appearence is.

Alices Restaurant.

The restaurant was started by Alice Brock in Massachusetts it remained open for about one year. It was a white sided building someplace along a nice street.

Mr. Guthrie composed the song "Alice's Restaurant" as a form of protest against the US military for refusing his entry into the military because of his criminal history-which stemmed from a littering charge. The tone of the song is slow and sarcastic/sad/hyperbolic because he has mixed emotions and is trying to prove a point. The meaning of "You can get anything you want" is that he can get whatever he wants through his imagination.

Alice Brock was a designer and painter during a very turbulent time. Mr. Guthrie named the song after her because during the 1960's the occupations she occupied where generally associated with the "hippie" movement and a rebellious youth.

Mr. Guthrie was from Brooklyn New York. Today he performs in tribute concerts and enjoys living a semi-retired life.
