Lewis Carroll born on January 27th, 1832 at Daresbury in Cheshire to an Anglican parson, one of a long line of clergymen and army officials. Carroll is from a family of 11 kids. In 1843 his family moved to a large Rectory in Yorkshire. Carroll attended grammar school at Rugby the year following the move. He studied mathematics at Christ Church, Oxford from 1855-1881 as a lecturer (tutor). Carroll began his university career at Christ Church, Oxford in 1851. His mother died only two days into his university career. Carroll won the Christ Church Mathematical Lectureship in 1855. They say he had a mathematical skill, he held that position for 26 years. Carroll was supposed to become a priest, but despite becoming a deacon in 1861, but the dean of the university allowed Carroll to remain at Christ Church.

Carroll’s most well known book, “Alice’s Adventured in Wonderland”, began as a story he invented to entertain Dean Liddell’s children, Ina and Edith. Then later he handwrote and illustrated “Alice’s Adventures Under Ground” in 1864. A year later the final version, with illustrations by John Tenniel and was published and became a huge success to the people. Carroll’s interest in photography began in 1856, when Skeffington Lutwidge, his uncle introduced him to the idea. His photography has a large range of subjects, such as landscape, animals, and life as we know it, but mostly he liked to take pictures of little girls. He photographed many famous people in his life like Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Alfred Tennyson, and Ellen Terry. His photography of children, and like his literature, had often a big dreamlike quality and sometimes has a sense of fairy-tale and made up theme. His career later ended in 1880 for unknown reasons.

Until his death in 1898 of pneumonia, Carroll remained at Christ College, where he taught until 1881. He continued to write children’s books, none of which related to the amount of success he got off of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. His books still remain to be a big hit in the world and people still know of his books. Carroll’s photography’s have been hung in museums all over the world. He also was diagnosed with epileptic at Oxford. But director John R. Hughes of University of Illinois, Chicago’s epilepsy clinic, argued with Oxford that Mr. Lewis Carroll did not have epilepsy and has been misdiagnosed.

The author’s life and work had become a constant area for speculation and his exploring of the boundaries of sense and nonsense has inspired a number of people in the world. Lewis Carroll had written a lot of good books and stories in his career that many people have loved. People’s favorite story was “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” its about a little seven year old girl named Alice who falls asleep and adventures off and explores the world of imagination. She first follows a rabbit into a tunnel and gets lost. She drinks a bottle of stuff to get small and then she forgot the key on the table that goes to the small door. So then she eats a cake that makes her bigger, much to big and cant get through the door. So then she cries and ends up in a lake with other animals. They play a game to get them dry. She meets a Cheshire cat who can disappear and reappear when he wants. She plays croquet with the queen of hearts. Alice experienced wondrous in this story tale book. I would say that Lewis Carroll became famous from this story tale book. It is such a good book that I think every school would read it, because I think that they would really enjoy this book.
Lewis Carroll wrote these books: Bruno’s Revenge, Phantasmagoria and Other Poems, Through the Looking Glass, The Hunting of the Snark, The Wasp in a Wig, The Rectory Umbrella and Mischmasch and many other books. Carroll was famous for his books. He did have a ruff patch were he liked to take pictures of little girls. That I think is a little sick minded but it happens and people do something about it or they don’t. But anyways. He lived a good life and died on January 14th 1898.
