3 Hours of Standing ! ! !

Alice’s Restaurant

Alice’s Restaurant was located down an alley behind the grocery store in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Alice’s Restaurant was opened by Alice M. Brock. The restaurant was open for one full year. When Arlo Guthrie says that “ you can get anything you want”, he means that whenever you want something you can always get it no matter what if you try.

The Song

Arlo Guthrie wrote this song for the reason of being an ironical and vague protest against the Vietnam War draft, and the widespread anti-hippie prejudice, while also telling of a true personal experience. The tone of Arlo’s song appeared to be sad in my opinion just in the approach he took in singing/reading it.

Alice

Alice was simply a young painter and designer. Arlo Guthrie named his song after Alice’s restaurant because it was the basis of everything that happened in 1965. Today Alice Brock owns her own art studio in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She is currently painting everything from canvas to beach stones and even has a couple posters and books.

Arlo Guthrie

Arlo Guthrie grew up solely around music and dancing. Growing up he made many of the famous clubs where famous singers/songwriters and political-social commentators performed at home. Later on in his singing/songwriting career broke out in 1967 with the release of the Woodstock Festival favorite, “Alice’s Restaurant.” As of 1998 Arlo has performed over 40 concerts with 27 different symphony orchestras. Still today he is performing concerts, writing songs and changing peoples lives with his words and music.

Nice job.You appear to have synthesized your research well. However, there is only one thing I might take exception with, but you might be able to clarify. I do not think the song is a "Woodstock Festival favorite." Where did that info come from?

The info about the song being a Woodstock Festival favorite came from http://www.arlo.net/bio.shtml. The statement was merely the opinion of the author of the biography but it sounded like a fun fact to just add in.
